How to set up professional-only purchasing on Shopify
Use Shopify catalogs to define professional products and prices, and a buyer review process to decide who receives access. BuyerClear can manage an approved company location’s membership in a B2B market you select.

Confirm your shop’s B2B setup
This guide concerns stores using Shopify’s new Markets functionality. Confirm that your shop has a suitable B2B market and that your staff can manage companies and markets. BuyerClear’s pilot compatibility review checks the access flow before you invite buyers.
Shopify currently allows up to three active catalogs across B2B markets on Basic, Grow and Advanced. Plus adds unlimited catalogs and direct company-location assignment. Check Shopify’s current plan requirements for your shop; the presence of a plan name alone does not confirm that your setup is ready.
Configure the catalog and the approval process
- Define your trade assortment. Decide which products are professional-only and which remain available at retail. Put the intended trade products and prices in a B2B catalog.
- Check publication. For new Markets, Shopify documents publishing professional-only products to the online store and intended B2B catalogs, while excluding them from every Region catalog. Follow Shopify’s product-publication instructions for the exact controls.
- Select the B2B market. Connect the appropriate catalog to the market. In BuyerClear, select the market used for approved buyers. Read the setup reference before the first grant.
- Choose buyer requirements. Define the professional credential you need and check exact lookup coverage. Use the app’s invitation flow to collect applications.
- Review and confirm access. After staff approval, BuyerClear creates or links the intended company location and checks the Shopify result. Existing company relationships require staff attention; do not assume a new company is always the right destination.
Product publication and prices remain Shopify settings. Installing BuyerClear by itself does not configure a trade-only assortment or change your theme.
Test the buyer experience before inviting customers
Use fictional test buyers in your pilot installation. Check direct product links as well as the store’s navigation and search, so you verify the purchasing experience beyond a single screen.
| Buyer situation | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Retail visitor | Retail products remain available. Professional-only products excluded from Region catalogs are not exposed through the public shopping experience. |
| Application awaiting review | Submitting an application has not granted BuyerClear-managed access. Check separately for access the buyer already had. |
| Approved buyer | Shopify access is confirmed, the intended company location is selected, and the buyer receives the correct assortment and prices after signing in. |
If the result differs from what you intended
A guest can still see a professional product: review its publication in all Region catalogs and any other selling surfaces you use. A BuyerClear approval requirement does not independently hide a publicly published item.
An approved buyer cannot purchase: check the app’s access state, the company location and the selected market’s catalog. A pending or failed Shopify step needs attention even when the staff decision says approved. Follow access troubleshooting.
A buyer already belongs to a company: confirm the existing location and who else uses it. The grant concerns a company location, so that choice matters for more than the application in front of you.
Next, decide how you will handle expired credentials and renewals. Keep your review policy and catalog setup documented for the staff who will maintain them.
